Dried pears are one of the most underrated dried fruits in American pantries. Most dried fruit aisles skip them entirely. The ones you do find are often loaded with added sugar or preservatives to compensate for thin-tasting base fruit. Ours are different. California-grown pears, dried without added sugar, with the natural pear flavor concentrated instead of masked. Soft chewy texture (not leather-dried into something hard to eat). Packed fresh in Monroe, NY in a resealable bulk bag, OU kosher certified. For snacking, baking, cheese boards, and any application where real pear flavor matters.

Why California Dried Pears Are Different

Worth flagging because the origin matters in this category.

California dried pears. California produces the dominant share of US commercial dried pears. Bartlett and Anjou varieties are most common, slow-dried to retain pliable texture and natural sweetness. Clean flavor profile, bright pear character, standard format for US domestic retail.

Turkish and Chilean dried pears. Less common in US retail but occasionally found in specialty importers. Different flavor profile, sometimes drier texture.

Freeze-dried pears. Completely different product. Crispy and crunchy rather than chewy. Made by freezing fresh pears and sublimating the moisture under vacuum. Typically sold as "crispy pears" or "crunchy pears" rather than "dried pears." Not what this product is.

Our dried pears are California-grown and slow-dried for the traditional chewy format. If you've been looking for the kind of dried pears your grandparents used to have in the pantry, this is that version.

  • 0.5g protein

  • 0.2g fat

  • 2g fiber

  • 14g carbs (13g natural fruit sugar, no added sugar)

  • 3% DV iron

  • Pear-specific polyphenols and chlorogenic acid

Dried pears are one of the lowest-calorie dried fruits per serving, which matters for portion-controlled snacking. The fiber-to-sugar ratio is reasonable compared to dates or raisins. For diabetes-friendly snacking and blood-sugar-conscious routines, dried pears fit better than many sweeter dried fruits (though still limit portion size).

How Cooks and Bakers Use Dried Pears

Cheese board pairing. This is the #1 use case. Dried pears pair especially well with aged cheddar, blue cheese, Stilton, Roquefort, and sharp goat cheeses. The natural sweetness cuts through the funk of strong cheeses where apples or grapes get overwhelmed. Classic accompaniment for a European-style cheese course.

Charcuterie boards. Same principle as cheese boards. Dried pears work with prosciutto, coppa, and Serrano ham. The fruit-meat combination is a traditional Italian and Spanish appetizer pairing.

Oatmeal and hot cereals. Chopped dried pears in steel-cut oats, bircher muesli, or cream of wheat. Rehydrate naturally as the porridge cooks. Add warming spices like cardamom, cinnamon, or clove.

Baking. Chopped into scones, breads, coffee cakes, and muffins. Pear and ginger pair especially well in baking. Pear and almond is another classic combination (pear-almond tart, pear-frangipane muffins).

Savory cooking applications. Rehydrated dried pears in pork stuffings, duck glazes, and game-meat preparations. The sweet-savory combination shows up in traditional French and Moroccan cooking.

Salads. Chopped dried pears in arugula salads with blue cheese, walnuts, and balsamic. Autumn grain bowls with farro or wild rice.

Trail mix and granola. Upscale homemade granola with dried pears instead of raisins. More interesting flavor.

Diabetes-friendly snacking. Lower glycemic impact than raisins or dates. Portable, shelf-stable, pairs with almonds or walnuts for a balanced snack.

Why No Sugar Added Matters Here

Most mainstream dried pears are sweetened during processing, either with cane sugar or fruit juice concentrate. Sweetening makes sense for tart fruits like kiwi or cranberries where unsweetened would be unpalatable. Pears are naturally sweet enough that added sugar is both unnecessary and often unwelcome for informed buyers. Our dried pears are unsweetened. The sweet flavor comes from the natural fruit sugar, concentrated through drying.

This matters for diabetic buyers, low-sugar diets, clean-eating routines, and buyers who specifically avoid added sweeteners in snack foods.

Storage

Keep sealed. Pantry: 6 to 12 months. Refrigerator: up to 18 months. Dried pears may develop white sugar crystals on the surface over time (natural sugar crystallization, not mold, still safe). If you see actual mold or smell fermentation, discard.
